Your adventure begins in the scenic high country of Yosemite at Tuolumne Meadows Backpackers Camp. Guests meet in the afternoon, where your guides welcome the group and provide guidance on overnight parking before settling into camp.

Following introductions, we move into a comprehensive orientation designed to set you up for success in the backcountry. Guides distribute group gear and lead a detailed pack demonstration, helping each guest properly organize and adjust their pack for comfort and efficiency. You’ll also receive assistance setting up tents and getting familiar with your equipment—an important step in building confidence before hitting the trail.

As evening sets in, we gather for dinner in camp and a “tomorrow talk,” where your guides walk through the upcoming day’s route, timing, mileage, and elevation changes. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, review expectations, and ensure everyone feels prepared for the journey ahead.

Surrounded by alpine meadows and granite peaks, your first night offers a calm and inspiring introduction to Yosemite’s high country—setting the tone for the adventure to come.

  • Yosemite Valley

Day two begins early as your guides prepare breakfast and get the group ready for the first full day on trail. After breaking camp, we caravan to White Wolf Trailhead, where vehicles are staged before stepping into the backcountry.

From here, the adventure truly begins with a 10-mile hike descending into the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne. The trail starts with sweeping views before dropping steadily toward Pate Valley, losing significant elevation along the way. While the mileage is longer, the downhill nature of the route allows for a steady pace, with breaks for hydration and rest built in throughout the day.

Midday, we may pause at the Hetch Hetchy overlook for lunch, offering expansive views and a chance to recharge before continuing the descent. As we move deeper into the canyon, the landscape transitions into a warmer, more rugged environment with towering rock walls and the Tuolumne River nearby.

By late afternoon, we arrive at our backcountry camp in Pate Valley. After getting settled and filtering water, we gather for a well-earned dinner. The evening concludes with a “tomorrow talk,” where your guides review the next day’s route, timing, and key details—ensuring everyone is prepared for another incredible day in Yosemite’s wilderness.

Today’s hike covers approximately 7.8 miles and gradually gains elevation as we move through one of Yosemite’s most scenic river corridors. The trail winds alongside cascading water, granite walls, and lush pockets of forest, with frequent opportunities to stop, take photos, and cool off. Along the way, we pass several ideal swimming holes and viewpoints, making this a rewarding and dynamic day on trail.

A highlight of the day is Register Creek waterfall, a beautiful and refreshing spot that often serves as a perfect lunch break depending on the group’s pace. With a steady climb and plenty of scenic pauses, the day strikes a great balance between challenge and enjoyment.

By mid to late afternoon, we arrive at our camp near Cathedral Creek Falls. After setting up tents and settling in, enjoy some time to relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. Day four is one of the most scenic stretches of the entire journey, as we continue our ascent through Yosemite’s high country. After breakfast in camp, we break down and begin hiking upstream along the Tuolumne River, gradually gaining elevation as the landscape opens into expansive granite terrain.

Today’s route covers approximately 8 miles with a steady climb, bringing us closer to the alpine environment of Glen Aulin. Along the way, we pass some of the most iconic waterfalls in Yosemite’s backcountry. We’ll stop at Waterwheel Falls for a well-earned lunch break, where powerful cascades and mist-filled air create a dramatic and refreshing setting. Additional stops at LeConte Falls and California Falls offer more opportunities to take in the beauty of the river as it tumbles through polished granite channels.

With plenty of breaks for photos, rest, and exploration, the day is as visually rewarding as it is physically engaging. By mid-afternoon, we arrive at Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp, a stunning alpine location perched along the river.

After setting up camp, enjoy time to relax and soak in the surroundings before gathering for dinner. As the day winds down, your guides will lead a “tomorrow talk,” preparing the group for the final stretch of this unforgettable Yosemite adventure.

Today’s hike covers approximately 6.5 miles with moderate elevation gain, offering a relaxed yet rewarding final stretch. As we move away from the river and back toward Tuolumne Meadows, the terrain gradually opens up, providing expansive views and a fitting conclusion to your journey through Yosemite’s backcountry.

By early afternoon, we arrive at Tuolumne Meadows Trailhead, marking the end of the hiking portion of the trip. From there, we catch the hiker’s shuttle, which transports us back to White Wolf Trailhead where vehicles are staged.
