βWe did the Arizona with SWAT during the holidays and it was AMAZING!! Our guide Hadyee was FANTASTIC ! It was like traveling with a passionate history professor. Her knowledge of the areas we visited was vast and truly enriched out experience. As a family of 4 (2 adults 2 older teens), it was a perfect family vacation. Every morning we were greeted by our guide cheerfully and energetic. We are so grateful to Southwest Adventures for helping us create wonderful family memories.β

Antelope Canyon
Route 66 Day 4
Antelope Canyon/Winslow, AZ
Begin your day with an early tour of Upper Antelope Canyon on a Navajo Guided Experience. This sandstone slot canyon, renowned for its undulating angles and light shafts will fill your morning with a thrill you wonβt soon forget. You will be guided through the iconic sandstone walls, shaped by years and years of water and wind. Your tour guide will show you places through the canyon to take memorable photos, tell you some history of the canyon, and some local history about the Navajo People. The walk through the canyon is a good 1/4 mile. Once we've reached the end of the canyon, we will proceed to hike around it. THis hike involves soft sand, stairs, and ramps, so it's best to wear closed-toe shoes. With the new hike, we're walking a total of 3/4's of a mile.
Once finished you will travel through the Hopi Nation. This will be a full day of touring. You will start the experience with a view of Coalmine Canyon, one of the hidden gems of Hopi, and enjoy a brief insight into Hopi pottery β and take a selfie! Enjoy the Moenkopi Fields overlook while en route and enjoy some discussion on Hopi agriculture.
Enjoy a visit to Hopi Arts Trail member Hamana So'oh's Gallery, located in the heart of the village, and take a short tour led by your guide, followed by a visit to the home workshop of Hopi Arts Trail member and silversmith Duane Tawahongva. To finish the day, your guide will take you to Dawa park, a natural box canyon with ancient walls covered with thousands of petroglyphs from different eras. Dawa Park is a window into the past, transporting you to the days of the ancients. Once finished you will end your journey in Winslow, Arizona. Once there, you will check into the La Posado Hotel. This is one of the few Fred Harvey Houses still operating, a relic of the glory days of rail travel and Route 66. Enjoy your evening in the historic town of Winslow.

There are multiple formations and hikes to explore and visit, along with more views and vistas of the Painted Desert. You will learn about these unique and rare geological specimens and their unique history. After lunch in Holbrook, travel back past Flagstaff and into Oak Creek Canyon for a scenic drive to Sedona. When you arrive, you will have the evening free to explore the Old Town area or the Tlaquepaque Arts Village, or hike on the many trails that are found in this area.

This is their exclusive trail and offers the best seat in the house for exploring the amazing red-rock formations of Sedona!
Lunch on your own in Sedona, AZ.
Once finished you will continue your adventure by traveling up the mountain to Jerome. The historic mining town of Jerome is home to some fantastic histories of the miners, mine owners, and outlaws who made this one of the most wicked and richest towns in the western United States. Reduced to a ghost town, this town is experiencing a resurgence of growth with artists and some great restaurants. You will enjoy a few hours learning about this history and other fascinating things that occurred in this western boomtown. You will then travel over historic Mingus Mountain and then into Prescott where you will get to explore the first state capital of Arizona when it was a territory.
