Starting from Las Vegas

Las Vegas is the closest major airport to Zion, roughly two and a half hours away, and it is usually the cheapest to fly into of any gateway on this catalogue. Bryce Canyon is about four hours on, and the Grand Canyon’s South Rim about four and a half; the West Rim is nearer, at around two.

The airport runs around the clock, which matters more than it sounds: a late arrival is still a usable arrival, and a trip can leave early the next morning without anyone having lost a day to travel.

What leaves from here ranges from a long weekend in one park to a two-week loop through the whole Colorado Plateau. Southern Utah in high summer is genuinely hot — the shoulder seasons, April to May and September to October, are the ones the guides prefer.
